About Me

My name is Joie Bauman (pronounced like Joey), my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I am a Peer Recovery Coach currently based in Central New Jersey.

Though I have academic roots in the social work field and have worked in traditional corners of mental health and wellness for a number of years now, I am growing to understand more and more that our current Western medical model of mental healthcare isn't working; not for me, and certainly not for the people I serve.

Professionally, I have experience working with neurodivergence, high level athletics, crisis, chronic suicidality, self-harm, complex trauma, substance use, eating disorders, and homelessness.

In my own personal journey, I have lived experiences as a Chinese-American transracial adoptee with neurodivergence, complex trauma, eating disorders, self-harm, substance use, and chronic suicidality. That being said, I do not believe these labels define who I am.

Through my own lived experience and a shitload of trauma work with my own coach, I am working to unlearn what I have internalized after so many years. My goal as a practitioner is to meet whomever I connect with through a kind, compassionate, and peer-focused lens. I hope that, by unlearning pathology together, we can slowly change this universe for the better.
